“A very special artist” -Tom Robinson, The BBC 6 Music Mixtape
“An absolute banger!” -BBC Introducing West Midlands
Katherine (she/they) is a DIY, queer and nonbinary Sound Engineer, Producer, Singer and Instrumentalist originally from Romford, UK.
Drawing on eclectic influences ranging from Medieval & Renaissance Music, to IDM and Grunge/ Alternative Rock, she has an ear for storytelling, crafting imaginative and idiosyncratic sound-worlds.
Katherine records, mixes and produces all her own tracks. Her version of bittersweet Medieval song ‘Puis Qu’en Oubli’ (Since I Have Been Forgotten), performed on gittern (medieval guitar), was selected for BBC Radio 3’s Night Tracks by Sara Mohr-Pietsch.
Her new genre-defying and inventive track ‘Lucente Stella’, or ‘Shining Star’, takes as inspiration an anonymous Medieval love song found in an arcane Italian manuscript from the 1400s, the Codex Rossi.
Lucente Stella is a song of unrequited, distant and impossible love. The virtuosic vocal melody weaves through a dark, immersive soundscape featuring layers of overdriven guitar, ambient sound design and analogue drums reminiscent of Kraftwerk.
The release is accompanied by an original music video by renowned Italian multimedia artist Thomas Tokamu. Tokamu’s stunning technological visuals bring this Medieval song into the present day.
